White Dragon Paper is one of very few bookbinders that make the paper sewn into each handmade book. Most bookbinders purchase commercially made papers that they then sew into their handmade book covers. I, however, start with raw materials such as used copy paper and cardboard boxes collected from friends, family, and local businesses. I process that fiber, for each sheet of new paper, then create the book covers and sew the handmade paper pages to create a unique, completely handmade work of art that can be written on, drawn in, and works well with glue and collage work.

All of the pages and end pages are my own handmade recycled paper. I carefully select the papers I intend to recycle to make my handmade paper, as some materials commonly recycled to make homemade paper have themselves been recycled so many times that they have essentially no fiber content and are overloaded with inks and dyes. The materials I use are selected to create a versatile paper that is soft to the touch, easily worked with, and eco friendly. Each sheet of paper used in these pages is inspected individually at several stages to insure there are no holes, weak spots, wrinkles, or other flaws.

This listing is for one pocket sized soft cover journal, sewn in the long stitch style with red waxed linen thread. The cover is made from textured white leather. There are 50 pages (100 sides) in this journal, with the naturally deckled edge that is characteristic of paper that was pulled by hand one sheet at a time. The pages are a mix of white, off white floral, tan, and grey colored recycled handmade paper made from 100% recycled paper materials.

The sturdy leather cover allows the journal to handle every day wear and tear, and is both durable and flexible enough to shove in your pocket for writing on the go.

I collected a variety of office and art papers to recycle, and took a few sheets from each batch to collect for this unique journal. Some sheets have floral inclusions, others were left without.

Making paper is a meditative process for me. There's something very relaxing to the simple, repetitive process. The end result of having a crisp, clean sheet of paper brings to mind endless possibilities. Anything that may have been upsetting or stressful before just melts away after I open up a whole world of opportunities with that one simple sheet of paper.
